Inderdaad!

Summer Note #5: Gas, Water, Electricity and Hospitality
There are still people who believe that hospitality venues are public utilities, obligated to provide free tap water and unrestricted access to the restroom. As if they’re some kind of basic service, like gas, water, or electricity. These same people think butchers should be required to give every passerby a free slice of meat, and that bike shops shouldn’t make a fuss about pumping up your tires.
These are people with plenty of “rights,” yet they feel they’re never obligated to do anything in return. They’re often full of stories about employers who are always trying to take advantage of them if you’re not careful, and they tend to trust no one. These folks spend their short time on earth being suspicious, resentful, and constantly afraid they’re being shortchanged.
That mindset strikes me as so deeply sad that, as consolation for such a miserable existence, I’d be inclined to offer them not just free water, but a complimentary glass of wine as well. The total confusion that ensues is often worth everything. “But… how can you possibly make money like that?!” Exactly!
